A Perfect Day in Adelaide – Autumn Edition

Adelaide takes on a golden glow in autumn. Crisp mornings, mild afternoons, and tree-lined streets painted in rich hues of amber and red create the perfect setting for a day of exploration. With fewer crowds and a relaxed pace, it’s an ideal time to experience the city’s culture, cuisine, and natural beauty.

Morning

Ease into the day with a peaceful walk along the River Torrens. The cooler autumn air and soft morning light make it perfect for a gentle stroll or jog, with vibrant foliage reflecting on the water.

Afterwards, warm up with a relaxed breakfast at the InterContinental or a nearby café, where seasonal produce and freshly brewed coffee set the tone for the day.

Late morning, embrace the season with a visit to the Adelaide Botanic Garden. Autumn colours transform the gardens into a picturesque landscape. Wander through leafy paths, visit the historic Palm House, and take your time enjoying the peaceful atmosphere without the summer heat.

Afternoon

As the day warms slightly, make your way to the Adelaide Central Market. With over 70 traders, it’s the perfect place to sample hearty seasonal produce, artisan goods, and comforting autumn flavours. Consider joining the free audio tour to uncover the market’s rich history and vibrant food culture.

(Please note: The Central Market is closed on Sundays and Mondays.)

After lunch, explore Adelaide’s cultural boulevard along North Terrace. Discover an inspiring collection at the Art Gallery of South Australia, dive into natural history at the South Australian Museum, or admire the stunning architecture of the State Library of South Australia, including the iconic Mortlock Wing.

Evening

As the day winds down, hop aboard the Adelaide–Glenelg tram line for a scenic ride to the coast. The journey offers a relaxed way to transition into the evening, passing through the city and suburbs before arriving seaside.

Arrive in Glenelg and take a stroll along the jetty as the autumn sun begins to set. The cooler air and softer light create a calm, inviting atmosphere.

Settle in for dinner at one of Glenelg’s many beachfront restaurants, enjoy a glass of South Australian wine, or treat yourself to something sweet along Jetty Road. A gentle walk along the shore or back through the lively promenade is the perfect way to end your day, capturing the relaxed charm of Adelaide in autumn.
